Illumination – Principle of operation

The screening test is a special method of investigation in the Röntgenologie. The body parts and the movements associated with them can be evaluated in "real time". We employ you in the miners hospital in Dortmund-Lütgendortmund for medical questions in which the procedures of conventional X-ray diagnostics do not promise sufficient expressiveness.

Our special focus is on functional testing of a body section or representation of tissues in which overlapping structures prevent an accurate assessment. While conventional X-ray technology provides us with rigid images, a screening process can be The swallowing.

Illumination – Application Possibilities

When is the screening as a diagnostic method particularly suitable?

The screening is mainly applied to investigations:

  • of the Swallowing Act
  • Kidney and urinary tract
  • of the Veins
  • of the gastrointestinal tract
  • The representation of port systems (access to the blood vessels or individual body caves)
  • of joints
  • For the position control of puncture needles and small intestine probes
In preparation for computed tomography or magnetic resonance tomography investigations

Screening – Investigation process

During the screening, they lie or stand on or in front of an adjustable examination table. Above the table is the digital x-ray machine.

Contrast agent is administered according to need. Depending on the diagnostic question you take it orally or get it via an access.

If, for example, it is necessary to reproduce the swallowing in order to present possible tight or malfunctions of the food tube, take a contrast medium orally. At the same time we manufacture several X-rays of the neck and the upper chest, whereby the path of the contrast agent can be tracked.

For the screening of the gastrointestinal tract it is necessary that the intestine is emptied beforehand by laxative agents and they appear on an empty stomach for the appointment.

In principle, X-ray examinations can be carried out in every patient, so there are no contraindications (contra indications).

The exception is a pregnancy. This should only be x if the diagnosis is absolutely necessary for a vital therapy of the mother.

For X-ray examinations with contrast agents, please inform us in advance about possible pre-conditions (diabetes, hyperthyroidism, allergies, severe kidney diseases, etc.).

The screening is part of our range of services at the Miners Hospital in Dortmund. We are happy to explain the possibilities of this radiological process!
